Friday 8-Track: Cure For The Hangover Blues
Well, we could have used this 8-track last Friday to have it for our post-new year's festivities morning-afters. It's only fitting that it's a week late, the remnants of a weekend long hangover are finally fading away and we can enjoy this mix of songs for a hangover without the crappy side affects.
Program 1:
1. No Beginning, No End - Hawksley Workman
"For those nights that never seem to end and you find yourself lying in bed next to the woman you've spent all night drinking with, searching to a find answer before she awakes, headache plagues you and that underwater feeling you just can't shake. Relish it while you can." -CG
2. Coming Down Again – The Rolling Stones
"When in the clenched fist of a hangover, music that is easy on the ears usually goes over with a little more ease for me. So best keep those “death from above” and “walkmen” cds shelved for now. This track is particularly helpful in that moment when the hangover is coinciding with the dawn and you still have not made it to your bed. It looks like the day will be ruined so we can at least enjoy the last few moments of the morning before bed. This also features Keith on lead vocal, bonus!" - RO
3. Cherubs - Arab Strap
"Arab Strap (R.I.P.) may, in fact, be the world's greatest hangover band ever." -BK
4. If It's Monday Morning - Lee Hazlewood
"If you listen to this song enough, you can actually start to feel that harsh sensation of a bright morning disorienting Lee's foggy, toxin-induced haze." -BK
(flip)
Program 2:
5. Killer Parties - The Hold Steady
"No matter how hungover you are New Year's Day, you can take solace in the fact that Craig Finn and co. are probably much more so. "Killer Parties" is an ode to excess from indie's best bar band." -NC
6. Down (Porter Ricks Remix) - Low
"I thought this Low remix album (Owl) was great, but I think I was only one of about a dozen people who actually bought it when it first came out in 1998. Anyway, this is the track that kicks it off...if you thought Low was too slow and depressing already, you may want to avoid this one." -BK
7. Deep Blue Day – Brian Eno & Daniel Lanois
"Really your best musical defense against a hangover would be to get this song queued up before that first drink (make sure to leave a stereo remote by your bed.) In the morning just pop this track on repeat and lay in bed until you are certain the sun has called it a day. As soon as you are feeling good enough to get up, simply start the process over again." -RO
8. Still Wasted From The Party Last Night - Liam Lynch
"Sometimes there is just no denying it, it's best to accept it and try to fulfill your obligations: daily commute, work, etc. Liam Lynch knows how it feels and this song is an amusing acknowledgment"-CG

Deep Blue Day:
Wasn't that a Brian Eno / Daniel Lanois collaboration? It should be duely noted.
Thank you for your time.
