You know that feeling when a certain song just hits a certain nerve and nothing else will satisfy? Most of the time, just one dose will do. However, every once in a while, there's those moments where the melody clicks so well in your brain that you need to just hear it one more time...or maybe two more, three more times? Or maybe you don't want it to stop at all and you rock the 'Repeat 1' button for 20 minutes?
Well, in honor of those moments, I've compiled an 8-track of my most repeat-worthy tracks. Some of these are just addictively too short and leave me hanging for more, while others just satiate the melodic itch in brain so well that I swear I could listen to them everyday and never get tired of them. Enjoy and also feel free to share your favorite neurotic musical obsessions in the comments section. If we get enough responses, we'll compile the results and use them for a future reader-curated 8-Track theme.
Noonday Underground - "Boy Like A Time Bomb" This song is the jam...but it's really short and always leaves you hanging for more. How did this band not get more popular??
R.E.M. - "Bandwagon" Another short song conducive to repeated listening back to back to back, this is a somewhat rare b-side from the Fables of the Reconstruction era, which was quite possibly the weirdest period (musically, at least) of R.E.M.'s career.
Fleetwood Mac - "Thats All For Everyone" With all his guitar and vocal overdubs, Buckingham probably played and replayed shit like this hundreds of times for days on end (or at least until the coke ran out), so you know his songs hold up to repeated listens.
Grant Lee Buffalo - "Mockingbirds"(demo version) Easily the most underrated band from the '90s, and quite possibly one of the best songs of our generation. Sounds better repeated daily (think of it as a mantra) than it does repeating it multiple times in a row.
(flip)
Boards of Canada - "Peacock Tail" Screw Nytol...just put this on repeat every night and you'll sleep like a rock.
Ryan Adams - "Magnolia Mountain" I picture Ryan Adams as the type of guy who occasionally snaps and makes his band listen to the same song over and over again for 5 days straight on the tour bus.
Depeche Mode - "Suffer Well" This track sounds amazing on repeat while darting through traffic doing 90mph on the Kennedy. Careful, don't repeat too much or you'll end up 20 miles outside of Rockford before you know it.
Pink Floyd - "Bike" This song never gets old no matter how many times you hear it. One of Syd's most brilliant mad genius moments.

Grant Lee will be in town soon, but I'm sure you knew that. And he routinely does old GLB songs in his solo set. I don't think I've ever seen him NOT do Mockingbirds.

Bike is one of my all time favourite tunes. Great post. I'm also a big fan of Jugband Blues and Arnold Layne. You can't beat a bit of mad Syd.

Thanks - Syd Barrett and Ryan Adams? It just doesn't get much better than that.
