Well, the holiday season is back, so we'd thought we'd reload the RFC X-Mas 8-track once again this year...hope these sound just as good in your iPod as they do in our Germlin sports wagon's stereo deck.
99.9% of Christmas songs are absolute crap. So, as a public service to get you in the holiday spirit to consume this month, RFC is bringing you some of that .1% that don't completely suck. Warm up the chestnuts, crank up the iPod and enjoy!
Program 1: Merry.
1. Beck - "Little Drum Machine Boy"
"Errbody needs a little holiday robot funk!" -BK
2. EL VEZ - "Santa Claus Is Sometimes Brown"
Tired of Feliz Navidad? Presley's Blue Christmas got you down? Maybe it's time to get turned on by a Brown Santa Claus. Watch out El Vez is coming up your chimney tonite!
3. John Lennon - "Happy X-Mas (War is Over)"
A x-mas classic!
4. Sonic Youth - "Santa Doesn't Cop Out On Dope" "This is another great track from the Just Say Noel compilation that came out during the heyday of the 'Alternative' movement. As much as that term got dilluted and ran into the ground, listening to these tracks definitely brings back some fond memories of that era. Oh, and I almost forgot...this is not an SY creation, it was actually originally done by TV's Martin Mull(!?!)" -BK
Program 2: Blue.
5. Reigning Sound - "If Christmas Can't Bring You Home"
Greg Cartwright can do me no wrong, even his Christmas song is a time bomb. Stripped down, bluesy holiday mis-cheer. X-mas alone sucks, this song does not!!
6. The Raveonettes - "The Christmas Song"
"Anything Sharin Foo is a part of will be sexy, so naturally this is one sexy Christmas song. Sexy doesn't suck!" - RO
7. Parenthetical Girls - "Do Your Fear What I Fear?"
There is an utter sweetness and naivety to this track that infuses the essence of the season without going overboard with the X-mas cheer.
8. The Pogues - "Fairytale of New York"
"Arguably the best Christmas song ever. Nothing makes one need a drink quite like the holidays or a woman. This one has both covered. I am pretty sure Shane MacGowan is drunk on this track and if you are not drinking already you will be by the end of it."- RO

Ahhh yes Fairytale of New York. Most definitely the greatest (actually, the only good) Christmas Song ever.
Shane McGowan is a hero!
