RFC: So, what are you doing to gear up for the big Lollapalooza performance?
Brian Karscig: Well, we have been rehearsing and doing some one off shows to get ready, and been tailoring a set that is a collection of old and new songs. We went back to just doing a 4-piece rock gig, and are leaving the string section at home this time. We are really excited! 2005 Lollapalooza was one of our all time favorite shows.
///If you aren't going to make it to "thee ole Lolla-fest" to catch TV on the Radio, and if you just couldn't get tickets to their post-Lolla performance then fear not, the band will be stopping by The Riv September 22nd. The tour is in support of their upcoming album Dear Science, which will hit stores September 23rd. [Thanks, NME]
///Mastodon are finishing up their follow-up to 2006's Blood Mountain. It should be completed by Labor Day and released sometime in January 2009. The lyrical theme revolves around Czarist Russia - which excites me to no end. [Thanks, Punknews]
///Wyclef Jean is finding himself at the receiving end of a suit demanding his payment for jewelry bought from "Jacob the Jeweler." The jewelery company claims Jean owes just over $300,000 of a $700,000+ bill. Currently the jewelery company's founder is in prison for lying to federal investigators about a multi-state drug ring. [Thanks, Billboard]
RFC: So, what are you doing to gear up for the big Lollapalooza performance?
Parker Gispert: I have started performing a series of deep knee bends every day to prepare us for the big show. I should be good and stretched out come Sunday.
RFC: So, what are you doing to gear up for the big Lollapalooza performance?
Innerpartysystem: I wouldnt say we are doing much different...what can you really do different from? We're playing on a stage, for people. Per usual. I mean it will probably be much bigger than most of our gigs we play. Am I excited? Definitely. But you won't catch me doing any extra pre show rituals than usual. If things get crazy enough, maybe I'll drink an extra beer. Who knows?
RFC: So, what are you doing to gear up for the big Lollapalooza performance?
Lennon Bone: We've been doing a ton of touring lately. Being out so much doesn't give a lot of time for working out new material, so during the days before Lolla we'll have a series of rehearsals to work out some new stuff. We plan on playing a couple of those during our Lolla performance. Other than that, we'll actually have a few days off to just relax and kind of pick out what all we want to see while we're there. For us, Lolla is going to be almost as much about taking in a bunch of our favorite bands as it is having a great show.
///UPDATE: What's this? Radiohead at Chicago Theatre Thursday night? The Google bots say, "The Thursday concert at the 3600-capacity Chicago Theatre will mark Radiohead’s first performance in Chicago since the UK quintet released its latest album..." but the link to the Trib article has myseriously disappeared.
///David Byrne and Brian Eno will be making dreams come true on August 18th. That is the date that you (and me) can find the new album, Everything that Happens Will Happen Today, via the collaborators website. Fans can also sign up to receive a free download of one of the songs on August 4th. Sweet. [Thanks, Consequence of Sound]
///The Go! Team has also been working on some new music (and cleaning out the basement), and they also have made it available via their website. So go download an old EP, a new track, and then get the source tracks to do some remixing of your own. [Thanks, Aversion]
///Deerhoof have announced their tour to support their release of Offend Maggie. They'll pass through Chicago, via The Metro, on October 17th. [Thanks, Spacelab]
RFC: So, what are you doing to gear up for the big Lollapalooza performance?
John Stanier: Nothing!! We have now been on tour for 1 1/2 years and we are firing full pistons......a well oiled "battle" machine that needs no preparation whatsoever.
RFC: So, what are you doing to gear up for the big Lollapalooza performance?
Rob Cantor: We're making a list of who else we want to see. This festival is so packed with talented artists that I'm excited just to be there. In terms of our own performance, we're concocting a few new ideas to make this a special performance...
A recent recipient of a Pitchfork 1.9 rating bitch slap, Ed Harcourt headlined Schubas last Friday with a raucous tequilla-fueled performance that I'd say merited a rating of at least 7.8. Despite what the Pfork review may have implied, Harcourt is actually a legit artist and talented multi-instrumentalist; and his first Chicago performance in six years definitely proved that. Turns out he's also quite a personable bloke to boot, as you can see from this pre-show interview.
Today kicks off a series of Lollapalooza previews on RFC where we talk to various artists on the bill about how they're preparing for the big gig. Starting off the series in style is DJ mash-up madman Gregg Gillis, aka Girl Talk:
RFC: So, what are you doing to gear up for the big Lollapalooza performance?
Gregg: I'm listening to Jane's Addiction while staring at myself in the mirror everyday.
