An album from the "Eccentric Soul" series, compiled and released by Chicago-based Numero Group, (figuratively) knocked me on my ass the first time I gave it a turn on ye ole table way back in 2008.
After further exploring this illustrious group of vinyl junkies, I became hopelessly obsessed and committed to spreading the Numero Group gospel. Yeah! Yeah! (Did I just get all Ian Svenoniusy?!)
That being embarrassingly admitted said, I'm super-excited to announce that the Numero guys are at it again with a new series titled "Local Customs". This upcoming collection will highlight the lost sounds of Mid-America from the '60's and '70's and is due to be released sometime this spring.
"Downriver Revival", the first record in the series, recalls producer Felton Williams who operated out of a basement in Ecorse, MI from 1967-81. This vinyl-only release will include 24 of Felton's best recordings, ranging from gospel to garage-punk.
And, if it's anything like the "Eccentric Soul" series, someone is going to have to (figuratively) pick my ass up off the floor, again. I'll keep you posted on that.
For my fellow enthusiasts, don't forget about the Numero Group "Eccentric Soul Review" at Park West, Saturday April 4. I'll be there, just look for the painfully white girl gettin' her effen groove on.
