Despite the slightly cringeworthy name "Downtown Sound," the Monday night concert series at Pritzker Pavilion has got some great acts lined up for the next few weeks including The Sea and Cake, Icy Demons and Nomo, who I think will sound extra great in the park.
Tonight at 6:30, Annie Clark/ St.Vincent* performs for free (with Alla opening) on the heels of last night's Metro engagement. According to The Metro's Twitter, she was "looking/sounding absolutely incredible last night," which I'm sure is true on both counts. She's a talented lady, but let's not also forget she's a pretty lady. I can't wait for Miranda July to direct and star in the biopic chronicling this wide-eyed beauty's rise to Hype Machine ubiquity! Sometimes, when I read a quote from Angelina Jolie in a magazine I like to imagine an alternate reality in which she was born in the body of Rosie O'Donnell, and then further imagine how the world would react to her in general were this the case. What if St. Vincent looked like Susan Boyle? What if C-A-T really spelled dog!?!
Annie Clark can't help being so gaddam adorable on top of being musically gifted, but maybe all of this navel gazing is why I can't seem to think of a "blog-hot" female act right now who isn't also, well just plain hot. Counter examples?
