Formed from the ashes of legendary shoegaze gods, Slowdive, low-fi sadcore outfit, Mojave 3 traded in the reverb pedals for a stripped down somber sound. After three solid ethereal space-laden albums under Slowdive, the band became Mojave 3 in 1995 and created an eerie, other-wordly beauty that pays homage to Low, Red House Painters and Mazzy Star. The band's debut album, Ask Me Tomorrow captured the essence of the mellow slowcore movement with its hush drums, strummy guitars, haunting piano and a soothing duet. The album begins with a seductive alt-country twanger "Love Songs on the Radio" and closes with a chilling jammer, "Mercy." Since its debut, Mojave 3 has recorded four more albums with a more countrified rock sound. However, nothing quite touches the sheer, tender moments of the band's hollowed out yet haunting heaven.
