There are few things I love right now in my life as much as I love The National. Making music for disillusioned mid-to-late-twenty-somethings, Matt Berninger and company speak to a very real part of me. The part that can't manage to keep a functioning relationship going to save her life. The part that can't settle and doesn't quite understand why. The part who feels worn down by every day life. I've made many-a mix since hitting 25 with National songs front and center and it's an annual thing for me these days to stick "Slow Show" on any disc of tunes I make for a boy fellow because, let's face it, that song kills souls in the best way possible.
If you follow The National's twitter, you already know that the band now has their own drink, named after the lead single off their latest effort, High Violet. The "bloodbuzz ohio" was invented by Scott Devendorf and is pictured to the right in all it's 10 - 14% alcohol content by volume glory.
What is a bloodbuzz ohio? Well, it's one part 7 Up (or Sprite), two parts red wine, and a splash of coca cola. Toss your ice on the bottom, add the 7 up, slowly pour over the red wine, and splash the cola on top. Bam. Bloodbuzz ohio.
How is it? Well, I'm not sure yet as my house is lacking all the ingredients at the moment but you can best believe that my love for The National means that the next time I'm in the general vicinity of red wine, boxed or not, I'll be whipping myself up a bloodbuzz ohio.
Bloodbuzz is when you are bleeding to a point that you start to feel a buzz. If you have ever given blood than u probably got a bloodbuzz. He is bleeding from everwhere. Now listen to the song.

Couldn't agree more with your assessment of The National and how they play a part in my life, too.
