There's only one female in Screaming Females, but given the amount of rock-and-roll energy packed into singer/guitar goddess Marissa Paternoster, you can understand the mistake. Screaming Females play their brand of raw-but-tuneful punk rock with an unselfconscious glee belying their technical proficiency. After years of underground shows in their native New Brunswick, New Jersey, the band's intense touring schedule—three hundred shows in three years!—has finally paid off, landing them spots with the likes of Dinosaur Jr. and the Dead Weather (whom they very nearly upstaged. It was awesome.) Give "Bell" a listen, and keep in mind that, in the finest punk rock tradition, Screaming Females are best appreciated live.
