With the temperature literally 30 degrees colder today than it was yesterday and a looming threat of a foot of snow tomorrow, the thought of Brazilian beers, cocktails and music sounds pretty damn good right now. Unfortunately the event is next Thursday and not tonight, but regardless, this sounds like a great event not to be missed. More details after the jump.
from the Sonotheque mailing list:
Led by groove merchant Joe Bryl, BRAZILIANCE is a hedonistic musical journey, transporting you to the contemporary bars and lounges of Rio and São Paulo, where the classic sounds and a whole new generation of urban grooves meet.
This month we salute Antonio Carlos Jobim and pay tribute to his life. Jobim was one of the most important figures in the bossa nova movement that made that style of music not only a trademark of Brazilian music but also very influential in North American jazz. It was said that Jobim was the George Gershwin of Brazil - as both contributed bodies of songs to the jazz repertoire, both extended their reach into the concert hall, and both symbolize their countries in the eyes of the rest of the world. Jobim died on December 8, 1994 in New York City.
This night will include a special showing of Tom Jobim & Gal Costa live in Los Angeles, 1987. The 1 hour film will start at 9pm.
It is impossible to deny the influence that Brazil has on today’s global culture. From music and film to fashion and dance, Brazil has become one of the world’s most important resources of popular art and entertainment. BRAZILIANCE will bring you the finest in Brazilian sounds and culture.
