No matter what genre strikes my fancy any particular day, you can be certain of one thing: At the end of the night, I'll be laying in bed with my ipod playing the most heartwrenchingly sad folk music I can muster. Sure, by day you might find me jamming out to some indie electronica or swilling PBR at a straight up gritty rock show but when it comes time for me to choose one genre of music to give my heart to, I'm a folk gal through and through.
I've been taken with quite a few artists this year, as anyone who reads RFC knows, but one gentleman has been responsible for more earworms than any other and that man is Ferraby Lionheart.
It's interesting that, for all the listening I do to Lionheart's superb new album, Jack Of Hearts, that I talk about him fairly infrequently. That's a shame because Lionheart has released one of the most solid, accessible indie albums this year and in the months I've spent with it, I've found it's tracks invading my head at every turn. Did I catch myself humming the chorus of "Holdin' Me Back" while cleaning the kitchen yesterday? Yes, yes I did.
Ferraby Lionheart - Holdin' Me Back
Recently, I reviwed the record for RFC sister site Indie College and said...
"With it’s twangy guitar and Lionheart’s signature romantic croon, “Harry and the Bees” is the type of song to have your last first kiss to. What can I say? Lionheart makes music for lovers and for people who want to fall in love. Never is that so evident as it is with Jack of Heart’s second to last song, “Drag Me ‘Round”. The song describes imperfect love to a tee with lyrics like “You kick me when I’m down; Who knew that you packed such a punch?” When Lionheart sings “I never want to get over it”, you never want him to get over it either because, quite simply, it sounds too beautiful to let go."

Now, you can see what all the fuss over Lionheart is about. On October 13th, the dreamy troubadour hits Lincoln Hall. For $15, you get Lionheart's romanticisms and melodies. Headliners First Aid Kit are just a bonus.
Still not certain? Swoon your way through this video of Lionheart's "Drag Me 'Round" and get back to me.
